Last night I reported some offensive graffiti I found on a BT green cabinet opposite Hampton College on Eagle Way. This was in addition to graffiti on the front side of this box (see photo below) that hadn’t previously been cleaned up.
Today I found out why. In response to my report on FixMyStreet.com the Council’s customer service department advised me that “Enterprise … do not remove graffiti from utility boxes as not public property”, which is reasonable, but “they have advised to report it to the utility company”.
I can understand the council not dealing with utility boxes, although other councils I have dealt with in the past have, however I would have expected them to be more proactive in reporting the problem to the utility company, especially given the nature of the graffiti and the location opposite the school.
Since the council wouldn’t do it, I have reported the graffiti directly to BT, and I will report back when I hear from them and if there is any progress.
